Venturato leaves, Salernitana still in jeopardy. Cittadella News
On June 29, 2021 by Jake IovineIt is now official. Roberto Venturato is leaving Cittadella after six seasons with the club. AS Cittadella announced this news earlier today, saluting the coach after six great years.
Venturato will now have to look for a new club. With Vincenzo Italiano’s departure from Spezia, there could be a landing spot available for Venturato at the Ligurian club.
One thing is for certain, however. Roberto Venturato will always be an important part of Cittadella history. After arriving in the summer of 2015, after Cittadella’s relegation to Serie C, Venturato has brought this club to heights that would’ve seemed impossible back then. He brought a club with one of the smallest budgets in the league within touching distance of Serie A. Lots of credit goes to Stefano Marchetti and the entire Cittadella board for buying the players needed, but with Venturato’s system, he proved that you don’t need a lot of money or high profile players to be a well run football club. A very special thank you to Roberto, and we wish him well wherever his next adventure takes him.
With lots of actions happening at the Tombolato, things down in Salerno has not been looking good recently. Claudio Lotito, the owner of Salernitana, is also the owner of Lazio. There is a rule that says you cannot own two teams in the same league. When Salernitana were promoted on May 10th, Lotito was given until June 25th to sell the club. On that Friday a few days ago, Lotito proposed a trust to allow him to have six more months to sell the team. Today, the Italian Football Federation rejected his proposal and now has until Saturday, July 3rd to figure all this out.
There has been talks and rumors spreading that Cittadella could be promoted at the expense of Salernitana, should Lotito fail to sell the Campania club. While nothing official has been said on what will happen if that’s the case, there is a possibility that it could be a reality. The three teams in that discussion are Cittadella, Monza, and Benevento. Monza, who finished third in Serie B, lost against Cittadella 3-2 over two legs. Benevento, meanwhile, is just coming down from Serie A after a very disappointing second half of the season, managing only one win in 19 games.
It will be a very interesting next couple of days regarding the situation with Salernitana, and also with the Cittadella transfer market. Mirko Antonucci is expected to be announced within the next week, as well as the head coach promotion of Edorardo Gorini, as well as possibility another signing.
