Gorini Appointed Head Coach, Proia leaves | Cittadella News
On July 19, 2021 by Jake IovineAfter a long wait, it is finally official. Edorardo Gorini will be the next Cittadella coach. After spending seven years as the assistant, he has been promoted to the head role.
Gorini, born in Venice, played for Cittadella as a player in 2007. Through his six seasons with the club, he made 82 appearances and scored two goals. After his retirement, he was brought onto the coaching staff as the technical coach, before becoming assistant in the summer of 2014.
There has been no changes elsewhere in the coaching staff. Roberto Musso is expected to become the new assistant, but everything else seems to have stayed the same.
Though the departure of Roberto Venturato may have seem to be our downfall, there are a lot of things to look forward to, and reasons to have high hopes for the upcoming season. Gorini already has lots of experience while he was alongside Venturato. He already know the system and style of play that the club desires. Stefano Marchetti is bringing younger players to this team, and Gorini should be able to play a similar playing style like what we saw under the Venturato era.
We will have a better idea on what the best formation should be played. We also should know how we will play after these preseason matches. It’s unclear what is our best lineup, but hopefully it’ll become more clear as the season goes on.
Proia and Ogunseye says goodbye
There were some big news and announcements made this weekend regarding the transfer market. Federico Proia, a key midfielder for Cittadella, is joining Veneto rivals Vicenza. With three season at the Tombolato, including just over 100 matches played, Proia says his farewell.
The big question within this Cittadella squad would be who is going to replace Proia?
Right now the best option is Gargiulo, an explosive midfielder who had a great season last year. Gargiulo is great at attacking the goal and able to track back in defense as well. Another option is D’Urso, the former Roma Primavera midfielder. Similar to Gargiulo, D’Urso can break defensive lines and use his speed and quickness in the midfield.
Another attacking player leaving the granata is Roberto Ogunseye. The forward started his Cittadella journey with a bang, scoring six goals in the first half of the season. However, poor form since January, where he did not manage to score, made Cittadella sell him to Serie C side Modena.
With new attacking options with the likes of Baldini, Cuppone, and Tounkara, it was going to be hard for the Cittadella coaching staff to see him getting good playing time next season. We wish Roberto the best with Modena, as we hope he can get back in Serie B with I Canarini
While the transfer market open for a while, the team officially starts preseason this week. After the opening ceremony on Friday, the team travels to Lavarone where they will have their first match, six days from now.
