Davide Adorni
On July 25, 2021 by Jake IovinePerhaps the heart of the Cittadella defense, this will be Davide Adorni’s fourth year with the granata. A solid center back, Adorni has proved to be one of Cittadella’s main starting center backs.
Adorni was born in Parma. Growing up, he was a part of Parma’s Primavera, going all the way to the U19’s. From 2009 to 2012, he was on Parma’s youth team, however, only made 36 appearances during those years.
In the summer of 2012, Adorni was loaned to Renate, just north of Milan. His pro debut came on September 2, 2012 in a 2-0 home win against Rimini. During his two seasons at Renate, the center back from Parma made 32 appearance. He helped the club reach playoffs in his first year, though losing the semifinals to Venezia.
Two years after the loan to Renate, Adorni was sold outright to Cesena, in 2014. He struggled for playing time, and did not play a single game. It was enough for Cesena to loan him half way through the season to Santarcangelo. For the remainder of the season, he played five games, and the club decided to extend the loan.
Adorni improved, and played a good chunk of the 15/16 Serie C season. Even better, the next year Adorni established himself as a starter for Santarcangelo. Only missing three games that season, it was Adorni’s best season at the time. He scored his first professional goal that year as well, in a come from behind win against Pordenone. Though Santarcangelo narrowly missed the playoffs by a single point, it was clear Adorni was only going to get better.
The loan ended that summer, and soon enough Cittadella came calling. Adorni signed with Cittadella on July 18, 2017. He rotated a lot that season, but came strong at the end when he played every minute of the promotion playoffs, as Citta finished 6th in Serie B.
Cittadella once again made promotion playoff the following year, and Adorni was finally hitting his best strides. He played 26 out of 38 Serie B matches, but the best was saved for last, as he once again played every minute of the playoffs. Cittadella overcame Spezia at the Picco, then defeated Benevento in a stunning comeback, and topped it off with a 2-0 first leg final win against Hellas Verona. Adorni was now 90 minutes from Serie A, an incredible story taking place.
Adorni started in the game against Verona. Cittadella, feeling the pressure, fell apart. A 3-0 defeat saw Verona turn the series upside-down, and were through to Serie A.
Now a starting center back, Adorni continued, determine to reach the promise land. Two years after the Verona defeat, Adorni and Cittadella saw themselves in a great position. It didn’t go their way, as Citta lost to Venezia over two legs.
The four seasons with Cittadella is something not to go unnoticed, Davide has done a brilliant job since he arrived in 2017. With three more years left on his contract, Adorni is in great position to become a huge legend at the club. He is doing great things, and is looking for another fantastic season!
