Vincenzo Ciriello

Another new signing that was announced earlier this week, Vincenzo Ciriello, the young center back from Casertana, is the newest edition in the Cittadella defense.

Ciriello was born in Naples on August 16th, 2002. He was part of Casertana from a young age, and went through the academy brilliantly. At 15 years old, he made his professional debut in the Coppa Italia on July 28, 2018. He came on in the 71st minute as Casertana won 2-0.

Ciriello was on the bench for the 18/19 season, while still playing for the Primavera squad. At the start of the next season, Ciriello made his Serie C debut at 17 years old, playing the full 90 against Potenza. He made seven more appearances for the first team later that year. Still a high schooler, Ciriello was already playing professional games in the third tier.

After a slow start for Casertana in 2020, they slowly crawled their way back into playoff position. Vincenzo made almost double the appearances from last year, gaining professional experience. Casertana eventually fell in the first round of the playoffs to Juve Stabia, with Ciriello sitting on the bench for that match.

Last Tuesday, Cittadella signed Ciriello for free, as well as teammate Simone Icardi and Luigi Cuppone earlier. Just before his 19th birthday, Ciriello showed that he can be a special player, and is looking to accelerate his career in Serie B. He has already played 22 professional games before he will turn 19. We can’t wait to potentially see his Serie B debut this season!
