Gorini happy with performance, but must finish the game earlier
On August 22, 2021 by Jake IovineEdoardo Gorini started his Serie B journey as a head coach on Saturday in Cittadella’s 1-0 win over Vicenza.
A very good performance all around for the Granata. The first half showed us that they have quality all over the pitch, from the back to up front. Here is what Gorini had to say after the win.
“Winning the derby after beating Monza is a lot of work. It makes us increase self-esteem and work with greater peace of mind. In the first half we did very well and I don’t remember a Vicenza shot on goal. In the second half we were good at scoring and then we had other chances to double.”
Those chances missed almost came back to bite Cittadella, as late on Vicenza pushed for the equalizing goal. Fans in attendance watched anxiously as the visitors nearly capitalized off of back line mistakes.
“Of course we should have closed it earlier so I would have been a little more relaxed. I am happy with the performance of the team, in all respects what I asked for was done.” continued Gorini.
A win is certainly a win that every fan, player, and coach will happily accept. Early on in the season, not only the results are need to satisfy everyone, but also the team performance and how they play. That is what Cittadella did well in this match. In a little bit of contrast to last weekend, Cittadella were much more comfortable playing out of the back and up the field with Cassandro and Benedetti moving up the field on the attack.
“We lost Branca on the eve, but Gargiulo did a great game as did Vita and the whole midfield. Now let’s think about Crotone, two days of rest and then we will start working again.”
Two wins at home in back to back weeks pleases Gorini, as good morale is needed for the start. The Granata are at home next weekend once again as they face Crotone.
