Adorni on the Cremonese defeat: “The overall performance was good”

Davide Adorni stays optimistic despite a tough loss last weekend against Cremonese. The captain at center back thinks Cittadella should have been more clinical in the final third, and things must improve in these situations.

“I think we had a good game, in which we missed in the decisive plays, from set pieces too shots. Apart from Carnesecchi’s miracles on the overhead shots of Beretta and Pavan, we should have been more dangerous. I repeat, however: the overall performance was good.” Adorni spoke following the match to Il Mattino.

“We conceded very little, being punished at the first opportunity: the first goal was born from our throw-in, we lost the ball and found ourselves unbalanced. Then, as happened in previous years, we struggled more once we were at a disadvantage because the opponents close down: from this point of view it is clear that we need to improve in the readings, because in that phase of the match we should have tried more crosses, and less depth.”

Adorni played the full 90 in Cremona, and had an 82% successful pass rate, according to FotMob. He was also rated the second highest on the pitch for the Granata just after Amedeo Benedetti. The center back, who is the new Cittadella captain after Iori’s retirement, is already thinking of the next match.

“A defeat of this type, however, gives us a lot, because we tried to play the game against a team built for the top. So, just as we didn’t have to get too excited about the victories, we don’t have to get depressed now.”
