Cittadella vs Brescia | All you need to know.
On April 29, 2022 by Jake IovineCittadella take the pitch at the Tombolato for the final time this season against promotion hunters Brescia.
The final game at home for the 2021/22 season is upon us on Saturday afternoon. Cittadella are looking to send their fans off on a good note as Serie A promotion can’t be reached this year. Brescia meanwhile are looking to snatch an automatic promotion spot with two games remaining.
As stated from yesterday by the Questure di Padova, Brescia supporters can buy tickets from any part of the stadium. The green light was given on Thursday meaning over 1,500 away supporters will be in full voice for the Biancazzurri.
Despite not having anything to play for, Cittadella will want to make a statement following comments from Ascoli president Massimo Pulcinelli. Pulcinelli was unhappy with Cittadella’s playing style last Monday, claiming they played “the games of their lives” and wasted time on goal kicks.
Here’s a preview for Cittadella and Brescia.
Cittadella
We’ve made it to the last home match of the first season back from Covid. The effects were still showing, as Cittadella struggled all season long for pre-Covid attendance. We’re hoping next year will bring in more fans just like old times.
Regardless, a good showing is always expected at home. It’ll be interesting to see what motivation the players have, considering they were provoked by Mr. Pulcinelli earlier in the week. The comments made perhaps can give Cittadella players some bulletin board material, and to show Cittadella are not a “anti-football” team.
That being said, Edoardo Gorini and co will have to deal with two left backs not being available: Daniele Donnarumma and Amedeo Benedetti. It’s likely Tommaso Cassandro and Alessandro Mattioli will fill in at full backs, with one of them having to play on their non-preferred side.
The Granata also are looking to end a recent poor run of form at home. Cittadella have failed to win a home game since February 27th. Since that match against Frosinone, Cittadella have also only managed one win in the last ten games.
That dismal run of form is part of the reason Cittadella won’t be featuring in the promotion playoffs for the first time since 2016. With the season practically over, a strong end can lift some supporters’ heads and look forward to next August.
Brescia
Brescia have been knocking on the door for promotion all year. I Biancazzurri have only lost one time in their last 20 games despite sacking Pippo Inzaghi mid way through the season.
Eugenio Corini now has the task of guiding Brescia back into Serie A. A 90th minute equalizer from SPAL last Monday denied Brescia a chance to go within a point of 2nd place Cremonese. Regardless, with two games to go, Corini’s side are in solid position to sneak into the top 2 of Serie B.
Striker Florian Aye has been one of Brescia’s most important pieces in their attack. With the club since 2019, Aye has had a decent season so far, despite only scoring four goals. Matteo Tramoni is another versatile attacker on the left that can damage defense’s. He has played every game so far this season, and has scored 6 goals and assisted two.
Brescia will be also hoping to end a frustrating spell against Cittadella on Saturday. The club has failed to beat the Granata on the last eight tries, including a playoff defeat last year. A 4-1 home win in 2017 was the last time Brescia managed to get all three points against Cittadella.
A win against Cittadella would not come at a better time. Three points on Saturday can potentially get Brescia into 2nd place, depending on other results around the league.
