End of an era: Amedeo Benedetti leaves Cittadella after seven years with the club.
On July 22, 2022 by Jake IovineIt’s been almost a year since long time Cittadella captain Manuel Iori retired after a heartbreaking final loss to Venezia in May 2021. Iori left the Granata after spending multiple seasons in the late 2000s and then coming back in 2015 to guide a town of 20,000 people of an improbable Serie A promotion.
Fast forward to present day, and it’s another club icon and piece that is saying his farewell: Amedeo Benedetti.
The left back arrived at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato in the summer of 2015, and was one of the first signings under Roberto Venturato. Benedetti stayed at the club for seven straight seasons, and despite many injuries preventing him from playing consistent minutes, Benedetti appeared in 187 matches for the club. That puts him in the top 10 all time leading appearance list for Cittadella.
His signing in 2015 proved to be one of the best in club history, as Benedetti also assisted 22 times and scored 6 goals during his time here. Today marks an end of an era of Benedetti’s time at the club, as he makes the move to Pordenone in the third division.
A player who has done so much for the club, and maybe isn’t talked about enough. Benedetti has stayed loyal to the club since joining, and has seen all the highs and lows during Cittadella’s steady rise.
It might be time to move on: Benedetti has had many injuries down the road, and perhaps his race has been ran at the club. Cittadella will be losing another piece of their magical teams down the years. We wish Amedeo the best of luck as he tries to lift Pordenone to promotion next season.
