Boxing Day has arrived in Serie B, and Cittadella are ready to play their final match of 2022.
Edoardo Gorini’s side have found themselves in a relegation fight to close out the year. Currently occupying 18th in the league, the Granata have fallen into unfamiliar territory after three straight losses, failing to score a goal in any of those games.
Their opponents Como haven’t had a smooth season either. Despite acquiring strong pieces over the summer like veteran Cesc Fabregas and Patrick Cutrone, Como have the same number of points as Cittadella going into the 19th Matchday of Serie B. Only goal difference separates the two sides, with Como having a slight lead by two more goals better.
Cittadella have now gone over 300 minutes and counting since the last time they found the back of the net, and will be desperate to get any type of result at the lake. Scoring has been less of an issue for Como, scoring three past Ternana last weekend to get their first win in over a month. However, Moreno Longo’s side have had trouble keeping the ball out of the net this year, giving up 27 goals in 18 games, the third worst in the league.
This game marks the end of the year and the end of the “andata” rounds in Serie B for these two teams. With both stepping into relegation territory, a win for either side will be MASSIVE going into the new year. But this game may be more important for an aspiring Cittadella club, as a loss for the Granata would put Edoardo Gorini on the verge of being sacked.
