Cittadella Women defeat Napoli Femminile, jumps to 2nd place.
On January 22, 2023 by Jake IovineCittadella Women earned a massive victory in Tombolo today, pushing them up to 2nd place in the Serie B Femminile standings.
Sunday’s clash against Napoli Femminile was the main event around the league this weekend, with the Azzurre standing two points head of Cittadella in 2nd.
Cittadella were eyeing their fourth straight win in the league at Centro Sportivo Tombolo, Citta‘s first home match in 2023. Salvatore Colantuono’s side got the breakthrough goal minutes before halftime, when Veronica Benedetti headed home the opener from Victoria Dahlberg’s corner kick.
The Granata doubled their advantage just six minutes following halftime, when Caterina Ferin’s volley from the top of the box put Cittadella into a two goal cushion.
Despite late pressure from Napoli, including a shot that rattled the crossbar, Colantuono’s side got over the line, and jumped to second place in the table.
In addition to Lazio Women’s defeat today against Hellas Verona, Cittadella move within one point off top spot in the standings. On a four game winning streak, Cittadella travel next weekend to face Sassari Torres, which will mark the halfway point through the season.
