Cittadella Women rescue a late point in Sardinia

Cittadella Women were able to grab a late equalizer to rescue a point against Sassari Torres Femminile on Sunday night.
Coming off a marvelous 2-0 victory over Napoli Femminile last weekend, the Granata headed to Sardinia in 2nd place as the last rounds of the ‘andata’ were played in the league.
It was the hosts who took a surprise lead just seconds before halftime, when the ball fell straight to the feet of Jelena Marenic inside the box. The unmarked attacker finished her chance into the bottom left corner, pulling Sassari in front on the stroke of halftime.
In search of an equalizer, the Granata won a penalty in the 62nd minute after Laura Peruzzo got fouled inside the box. However, Greek international and Cittadella top scorer Sofia Kongouli’s effort hit the post as the chance slipped away.
With time running down, Cittadella finally got their breakthrough with 10 minutes left to play. Substitute Alice Begal was not to be denied on her third follow up effort, tucking the ball into the bottom right corner and leveling the score at 1-1.
Cittadella nearly found the game winner in the 87th minute as Caterina Ferin’s header sailed just wide of the post off the corner.
The draw brings the Granata‘s four match winning streak to an end, and pushes them to 5th in Serie B Femminile. Cittadella are back next Sunday where they’ll travel to Cesena, who sit three points behind them.
