Cittadella host a struggling Reggina side on Saturday at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato.
Following a dismantling at the hands of league leaders Frosinone last weekend, Cittadella return home to face Reggina, who have struggled for wins since the start of the new year.
Under Filippo Inzaghi, Reggina have dreamed of promotion all season, constantly being in the top two of the league. However, recent form have made Inzaghi’s side lose ground in the table, falling back to 4th and three points off second place. Reggina have lost four out of their opening five games of 2023, including three straight losses entering Saturday.
On the other end of the table, Cittadella face another big test in their effort to escape the relegation zone. Despite a 3-0 loss to Frosinone last weekend, the Granata have shown signs of life since January. The edition of Giovanni Crociata has given Edoardo Gorini’s side new energy in attack, alongside star-man Mirko Antonucci, who has scored 8 goals and 1 assist this season.
Despite the separation in the standings, both Cittadella and Reggina have the same number of losses (9) after 24 games in Serie B. However, the Calabrian side has won twice as many games as Cittadella, thus putting them 12 points ahead of their opponents.
Inter Milan loanee Giovanni Fabbian–who scored in the previous meeting between the two sides–has been Reggina’s young star this season, collecting 7 goals in the midfield. Veteran forward Jeremy Menez has also been productive this season for Inzaghi’s men, tallying five goals and two assists for the Calabrians.
Reggina have been in poor form as of late, but are still in reach of 2nd place Genoa. Cittadella have another opportunity to put themselves more ahead of the relegation drop, as both teams meet at the Tombolato on Saturday.
