Following a last minute win against Ternana on the weekend, it’s a quick turnaround for Cittadella as they get ready to face Brescia in their midweek clash.
It was only days ago when Giovanni Crociata’s brace gave Cittadella another three points, adding much needed space between them and the relegation zone. The Granata have only lost one match since the start of the new year, and have won three out of their last four matches coming into the game on Wednesday.
Tensions and frustrations are sky high at Brescia in recent weeks. A series of firing coaches between Pep Clotet, Alfredo Aglietti, Davide Possanzini, and now currently Daniele Gastaldello adds to what has been a wild season for I Biancazzurri, who enter the match in rock bottom of the standings.
Brescia started the season well, winning five of their six opening games and staying within the playoff spots. However, since October 1st, Brescia have only recorded one win, falling to 20th place in the process. Currently, the Lombardy team have lost seven straight matches, scoring only once in those seven games. It’s no doubt that Brescia are the most out-of-form team in the league, and have lots of work to do to get out of the relegation fight.
Brescia’s poor form should not be taken lightly, as Cittadella must focus on getting the job done at home as they try to secure three straight wins. A victory for Edoardo Gorini’s team would go a long way in the resurgence of the Granata in 2023.
With Cosenza’s late win against Reggina on Tuesday night, it sends the message that no team is safe of relegation yet, and points are still needed if Cittadella want to stay in the league. The game on Wednesday is a perfect opportunity for them to get clear of the drop, while a win for Brescia is much needed at this point of the season.
