It’s the penultimate match in the Serie B season, as nine games kickoff simultaneously on Saturday, with Cittadella traveling to Bolzano to face Südtirol.
Following last weekend’s win against Benevento, Cittadella know they can confirm safety in the division with a win as well as other results going their way.
It was a much needed win for Edoardo Gorini’s side, as the Granata went nine games without a win before the victory. With two games remaining, Cittadella’s survival hopes remain in their hands on the outside of the relegation zone. With 41 points, they currently sit in 15th, two points ahead of 16th Cosenza.
For Südtirol, they are enjoying a dream debut season in Serie B. The Tirolesi have clinched a playoff spot and are trying to lock up 4th place in the league, which would give them a first round bye.
Südtirol, coached by Pierpaolo Bisoli, have had a remarkable turnaround this season. From starting their first three games with 0 points, they are dreaming of an improbable Serie A promotion. Led by long time midfielder and captain Fabian Tait and forward Raphael Odogwu, the team from Bolzano have the 3rd most clean sheets in the league, tallying 15 while only conceding 31 goals.
Interestingly, both teams have some of the lowest goal tallies in the league. Südtirol have scored just three goals more (36) than Cittadella this season (33).
Both teams need a win to lock up their respective targets. For Cittadella, a win would practically assure them a spot in next years Serie B season. A win for Bisoli’s side would almost guarantee themselves of a first round bye in the promotion playoffs.
Below are the salvation scenarios for Cittadella.
