Ambrosino starts in Italy U20 loss to Nigeria U20.
On May 24, 2023 by Jake IovineGiuseppe Ambrosino started and played 59 minutes on Wednesday afternoon for Italy U20 as they fell to Nigeria U20 0-2.
Ambrosino, who flew to Argentina hours after Cittadella’s last match of the season, didn’t see any minutes in Italy’s opening game against Brazil, where the Azzurri won 3-2. Today, the Napoli loanee started in Italy’s second group stage match against Nigeria.
The forward had a total of two shots in the first half, with both of them being blocked before they reached the goal frame. Ambrosino tallied a total of 37 touches while on the pitch today. He was subbed off in the 59th minute for Luca Lipani.
Nigeria took the lead in the 61st minute through Salim Figo Lawal. Late in stoppage time, Sunday Jude sealed the victory for the Super Eagles, who go top of Group D.
Italy now have to get a good result in their final group stage match on Saturday against the Dominican Republic to have a chance of qualification to the quarterfinals.
