The first midweek match of the Serie B season takes place on Wednesday night for Cittadella as they play Bari at the Stadio San Nicola.
The Granata were beaten 2-0 by Parma on Saturday, where they fell behind seconds into the match after a penalty conceded. Despite controlling most of the possession and tallying more shots than Parma, Cittadella failed to register a shot on target in 19 tries.
They’ll be looking to bounce back on Wednesday against Bari. The Biancorossi, who were minutes away from Serie A promotion last year, are looking to build on their first victory of the season after defeating Cremonese on the weekend. Despite losing multiple key players such as Walid Cheddira, Elia Caprile, and Mirco Antenucci, Bari still are expected to finish in the top 8 of the league and inside the playoffs.
The last time Cittadella visited the San Nicola was when Edoardo Gorini’s side got a massive draw thanks to Tommy Maistrello’s 84th minute equalizer, which eventually led the team to safety from relegation. Despite that positive result, the Granata haven’t defeated Bari in Puglia since 2016.
Cittadella are still without Enrico Baldini, who could return to the pitch as early as next weekend. New Bari signing and former Cittadella striker Davide Diaw will not play against his former club on Wednesday due to injury. Bari will have Valerio Di Cesare and Mattia Maita back in the squad after serving their red card suspensions from Matchday 1.
