After a long international break, Cittadella return to the pitch to face Sampdoria in the last match of the Serie B weekend.
It’s been 15 days since the Granata last played a match, which was a 0-0 draw against Venetian rivals Venezia at home. They will now travel to Genova to face a struggling Sampdoria side under Andrea Pirlo.
It’s been an optimistic start to the year for Edoardo Gorini’s Cittadella, who have gained five points in their opening four matches. A win at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Monday night will put the Granata into the playoff spots.
Sampdoria are promotion contenders this season following their relegation from Serie A. However, the Blucerchiati currently sit in 16th place going into the match, starting off with a 1-1-2 record. Sampdoria are also serving a -2 point deduction due to late tax payments.
This will be the first meeting between the two clubs in over 11 years, with their last match being played in March 2012, where Sampdoria were victorious at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato 1-2. Cittadella have never beaten the Ligurian side in seven attempts, and are looking for their first on Monday.
