Cittadella plays at home for the second straight weekend as Ternana come to town for the ninth match of the season.

The Granata had one of the best finishes to a match in recent memory last weekend. Edoardo Gorini’s side came from behind in the dying minutes to beat Lecco 2-1, pushing them to 12 points and in 7th place going into the weekend. Ternana got its season rolling following a 3-0 victory at home against Reggiana: the first win of the season for Cristiano Lucarelli’s men.

Saturday will be the 23rd all-time meeting between Cittadella and Ternana. Le Fere narrowly leads the series, carrying a 8-7-7 record against the Venetian team. Ternana has not lost at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato in its last three visits.

Last season, Cittadella earned a priceless victory against the Umbrian club due to a stunning Giovanni Crociata second-half brace. The midfielder’s last-minute free kick was enough for the Granata to get all three points in what was a heavily important match in February. Cittadella would go on to finish 15th, while Ternana finishing 14th with the same number of points.

Lucarelli’s side has managed to get only two wins out of their last 16 league matches, dating back to April of last season. Both Cittadella and Ternana are looking to get their second wins in a row before the international break.

Cittadella will be without a few players, including full-back Federico Giraudo, who picked up an injury in training this week.

“[Giraudo] didn’t feel well yesterday when kicking,” Gorini said in his pre-match press conference. “Today he did some more accurate checks, but for tomorrow he won’t play and risk it.”

Along with Giraudo will be Domenico Frare, who is still recovering from an injury picked up a few weeks ago. Edoardo Sottini will be sidelined for this weekend as well.
