Maistrello and Cassano goals not enough for a Cittadella win.
On October 7, 2023 by Jake IovineCittadella settled for a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon against Ternana after conceding late in the match.
Tommy Maistrello and Claudio Cassano scored in the first half to put the Granata in the lead, before Ternana substitute Frederik Sorensen leveled the score for the Umbrain side in the 84th minute.
For the sixth time this season, Cittadella conceded first as Cesar Falletti’s ‘penanka’ penalty in the 8th minute gave Ternana the lead. Just two minutes later, however, Tommy Maistrello pulled Gorini’s side level following good hustle on the right hand flank by Alessio Vita. The forward poked in the cross to get his first goal of the season.
After impressing last weekend, Cassano earned another start for Cittadella. The former Roma Primavera product caused problems for the Ternana defense, even hitting the crossbar after a clever touch to the inside. Cassano wasn’t to be denied for a second time, as he found his goal in the 29th minute. The midfielder’s long range effort nestled into the bottom corner, giving the Granata the lead.
Gorini’s side lacked energy in the second half, creating only three chances compared to Le Fere‘s six attempts. The Umbrain side got its goal with six minutes remaining, with substitute Frederik Sorensen take advantage of Andrea Danzi’s poor first touch and firing the ball into the net.
Ternana will be the happier of the two sides, while Cittadella will be disappointed they couldn’t close out the match. Both teams will now get two weeks of rest during the international break, with Cittadella returning on October 21st in Pisa.
