Cittadella beat Cosenza, on the verge of record winning streak.

Cittadella won its fifth straight match after a 2-0 win against Cosenza, putting the Granata on the verge of a record six straight wins.

Two first half goals from Alessio Vita and Alessandro Salvi gave Edoardo Gorini’s side the advantage going into halftime. Cittadella had won four straight games going into the weekend, and were looking for a fifth. They had not reached that tally in Serie B since the 2016/17 season.

Cosenza had not lost to Cittadella since March 2020, and had begun their respective season positively. I Lupi outshot Cittadella 9-6 in the first half while also controlling 53% of the possession.

However, it was Alessio Vita who scored his fourth goal in all competitions for Cittadella to give Gorini’s side the lead in the 12th minute. An inch-perfect free kick from the midfielder nestled into the bottom corner.

In the 27th minute, Alessandro Salvi’s glancing header from Claudio Cassano’s corner kick found the net once again. This was Salvi’s first goal in his career since November 2021 while playing for Ascoli.

Cosenza once again had the better of chances in the second half, tallying a total of seven shots compared to Cittadella’s two. The best chance for the visitors came when Simone Mazzocchi found space behind the Cittadella defense, but Elhan Kastrati made himself big to deny the midfielder.

This was Cittadella’s first win by more than a one goal margin since defeating Benevento 3-1 in May. The Granata move to 6th place on 28 points in the league.

Up next for Gorini’s men is a trip to Modena, where Cittadella can make a record six game winning streak in Serie B play.
