Cittadella suffers third straight loss in 2-0 defeat to Brescia.

Cittadella suffered their third straight loss after falling to Brescia 2-0 at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti on Saturday.

This was the first time in nearly seven years that Brescia defeated the Granata, spanning 12 games without a victory. Two second half goals from Gennaro Borrelli and Gabriele Moncini sealed three points for Brescia.

Cittadella head coach Edoardo Gorini believed there was little separation between his team and Brescia on Saturday despite the 2-0 loss.

“It was a balanced match, anyone could have won,” Gorini said the media after the match. “It was decided by some key moments.”

Both Brescia and Cittadella had the same amount of shots on target (3) entering halftime. Luca Pandolfi tested Brescia goalkeeper Lorenzo Andrenacci on several occasions in the first half. Claudio Cassano came the closest to opening the scoring for the Venetians in the 36th minute, but his goal-bound shot was pushed aside by Andrenacci.

Gorini’s side has entered halftime with the score level in the last three games, but have not won any of them. Brescia took the lead seven minutes after the break from Gennaro Borrelli’s close range tap in. The ball bounced around the Cittadella box before the Brescia striker had an easy finish.

Former Cittadella striker Gabriele Moncini put the game beyond doubt in the 74th minute after a quick counter attack from the hosts. Moncini’s close range header was met by Dimitri Bisoli’s cross, doubling La Leonessa’s lead.

Gorini’s side failed to register a shot on frame in the second half – a vast contrast to Brescia’s six after halftime.

“We need to be better in key moments,” Gorini said. “I can’t say that the guys didn’t perform, we just need to grow from it.”

After going nine games without defeat, Cittadella finds themselves in a three game losing streak. The Granata are back at home next weekend where they’ll welcome league leaders Parma at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato.
