Cittadella hosts Catanzaro at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato for the first time in the 26th Matchday of the Serie B season.
Edoardo Gorini’s side has lost five straight games coming into the weekend clash with Catanzaro. The Granata have only picked up one win in 2024, sliding down to 7th in the league on 36 points. Catanzaro has impressed this season after being promoted last year, with the club sitting three points ahead of Cittadella in 6th.
Gorini knows the importance of Saturday’s game for Cittadella, who has not seen a win since Jan. 13.
“A win in these difficult times would be the best medicine,” Gorini said in his pre-match press conference. “The game tomorrow is very important and fundamental for our future. We need to fight to try and get a result.”
Saturday will be only the second meeting between Cittadella and Catanzaro. The last match between the two clubs ended in a 1-1 draw in September at the Stadio Nicola Ceravolo.
“[Nicola] Pavan has not recovered, so he won’t play tomorrow,” Gorini said. “Besides him and the two suspended players (Simone Branca and Matteo Angeli), everyone is called-up.”
Catanzaro has been dangerous this season, but recent form which has seen the Giallorossi win twice in nine games puts them only six points clear of the playoff line.
Saturday will be the first of three games played in eight days for Cittadella as the Granata get ready for midseason fixture congestion. Gorini’s side will play Venezia at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo on Wednesday, and will be back on the field the following Sunday at home against Pisa. Catanzaro will play Cittadella, Bari and Cosenza in eight days as well.
