Gorini speaks on the eve of Cittadella – Catanzaro

On February 23, 2024 by Jake Iovine

Cittadella head coach Edoardo Gorini spoke to the media prior to Saturday’s match against Catanzaro at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato.

The Granata have lost five straight games entering the weekend, and have not picked up three points since Jan. 13.

Saturday will be the first ever meeting at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato between Cittadella and Catanzaro, both of whom played out a 1-1 draw in September.

Here were some key points taken from Gorini in anticipation of the Catanzaro match.

Squad updates:

“Pavan is not recovered, so he won’t play tomorrow. We are working to get him back on Wednesday against Venezia. These type of injuries are day-to-day, so maybe on Wednesday or the following weekend against Pisa he’ll be back.

Besides Pavan and the two suspended players (Branca and Angeli), everyone is called-up.”

On the recent poor form:

“Like we talked about, a win in these difficult times would be the best medicine. The game tomorrow is very important and fundamental for our future. We need to fight to try and get a result.

We are facing a team that from the start of the year has a specific identity and have been playing with each other for some years, so it won’t be an easy game.”

On differences/similarities of Cittadella and Catanzaro:

“They are two ways to play football, they are two tactics or strategies that get you the wins. If you look at the table, Catanzaro has three more points than us but we are both having a great season.

Catanzaro dominated Serie C last year, and they are continuing it this season as well because they have a precise identity: to possess the ball and try to outplay the opponent. They are two different ways to play football, I don’t know which is more beautiful or more right, but both can win games and that’s the beauty of it.”

On Claudio Cassano and Enrico Baldini getting minutes:

“I’m thinking about playing Baldini, I spoke with him and he’s fine. I thought he came into the Spezia match and did well. I don’t know if he will play from the start but I’m happy that he is doing well and making himself available.

Cassano is still questionable. Last week I saw Mastrantonio playing better, so maybe he’s in a bit of decline in performances or maybe in the match against Parma he didn’t play well despite the conditions. But Claudio is still an important player for us, we have to remember this is his first season in Serie B and he was starting a lot, so it’s natural that he has a little slump in form. This week he trained well and is fine, so I will decide what is best for the team to try and win.”
