Cittadella draw Cosenza 0-0, gets first point after eight games
On March 9, 2024 by Jake IovineCittadella got their first positive result in nearly two months after drawing 0-0 with Cosenza on Saturday afternoon.
A goalless match which saw Cittadella goalkeeper Luca Maniero make four saves ended the Granata‘s eight match losing streak. Edoardo Gorini’s side still remain without a win in nine games and have not scored a goal in open play in the last four games.
Gorini opted for a change in formation as Cittadella set up in a 3-5-2 lineup as well as Maniero replacing Elhan Kastrati in net.
Cosenza’s best chance of the first half came in the 25th minute when ex-Cittadella midfielder Mirko Antonucci threaded a pass to Aldo Florenzi, but Maniero blocked the effort with his legs. The Granata could only manage three total shots in the first half.
The hosts once more came close to opening the scoring in the second half as substitute Luigi Canotto tried to round Maniero on a through ball. Maniero was once again called into action to deny the Cosenza attacker the opening goal.
Cosenza thought they had scored in the 62nd minute from a Valerio Crespi header. However, the goal was chalked off due to the substitute being in an offside position prior to the cross.
Maniero was once again forced to make a huge save on the stroke of full-time, as the keeper parried away a long distance strike from Florenzi.
The 0-0 result is the sixth draw in the last eight meetings between Cosenza and Cittadella. The Granata remain outside the playoff zone on goal difference with nine games remaining. Only three points separate 8th and 15th position in Serie B.
