Gorini gives updates and thoughts on weekend Modena clash
On March 15, 2024 by Jake IovineCittadella head coach Edoardo Gorini spoke to the media on Friday before tomorrow’s match against Modena at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato.
The Granata have gone nine games without a win in Serie B, but broke an eight game losing streak last weekend in a goalless draw with Cosenza. Modena have only picked up two wins from their last 17 league matches, putting pressure on coach Paolo Bianco going into the match at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato.
Here were key takeaways from Gorini on the eve of the match against Modena:
Squad updates:
“Everyone is ready besides Pavan, Danzi and Saggionetto. With Pavan and Danzi it’s still a bit of a stretch, but they are on the road to recovery.”
On Modena:
“The table is tight so to win and to move up the standings is important. Now it’s the middle of the ‘girone di ritorno’ so these are precious points. Tomorrow Modena is arriving in a difficult moment like us.
I would like to retain the form that we had when we played Modena last time. Our goals are the same: to play with our principles and try to get wins, more or less right now the points count even more. We must try to play our way and try to win the match.
Modena is a very physical team. In my opinion, they have great players in the middle of the field that can make the difference. They also have great attackers that finish well and are dangerous inside the box. Clearly they are in a difficult moment: they didn’t deserve to lose the match against Cremonese, as well as against Feralpisalo. Even though the results aren’t there, the team always plays well and there’s no easy team to beat in this league.”
On goalkeeping situation:
“I spoke with Kastrati and he understands that recently I haven’t seen him composed. He’s an intelligent guy and he puts the team in front of him.
He’s always the keeper I’ll start, but it’s clear that he’s in a rough moment, Maniero entered and did well. Kastrati has grown a lot in these years and so has Maniero. Kastrati was the first person to be happy with Maniero after the game. Clearly both of them want to play, but having two intelligent goalkeepers helps the team get results.
Have I decided who to start? I think I’ll continue to put Maniero. I think to build trust you need to put him in opportunities like this.”
