Sudtirol and Cittadella play out to 0-0 draw
On April 20, 2024 by Jake IovineCittadella were held to a goalless draw for the second straight game as the Granata drew 0-0 with Sudtirol on Saturday.
The result is Cittadella’s second straight goalless draw after being held last weekend against Ascoli. The draw holds the Granata below the playoff line by one point with four games remaining in Serie B, while Sudtirol are two points adrift of 8th place.
“I think it was a fair draw,” Cittadella head coach Edoardo Gorini said after the match to Trivenetogoal. “It was a good match, with opportunities on both sides. We started very well and I think we deserved to score in the first half.”
Forward Filippo Pittarello got his first start since April 1 after coming from an injury, and nearly scored the opening goal minutes into the match after his shot rattled the crossbar. Gorini’s side accumulated nine shots in the first half, with four of them being on target. Sudtirol keeper Giacomo Poluzzi made five saves in the match, denying the Granata a few goals in the first half.
Both sides were cautious in the second half, with only one attempt on frame from both sides after halftime. Pittarello only managed two touches inside the penalty box while looking for his fourth goal of the season.
Gorini’s side have now gone six games without defeat, but have only gotten one win in that streak of games. Sudtirol have been undefeated at the Stadio Druso in their last five home games.
“It’s a draw which means continuity of positive results,” Gorini said. “After the bad period between January and February, it’s important not to lose.”
Four games remain for both sides this season with playoffs in reach. Cittadella return home next weekend to face relegation-battling Feralpisalò, while Sudtirol travel to Modena.
“Next week against Feralpisalò, we have to take full advantage and put aside the question of survival,” Gorini said. “And perhaps aspire for something more.”
