Kastrati to be part of Albania National Team for EURO 2024
On June 8, 2024 by Jake IovineCittadella goalkeeper Elhan Kastrati has been selected to be part of the Albania national team for this summer’s European Championship.
The federation announced today that 26 players will be apart of Sylvinho’s team for the tournament in Germany. Kastrati will be one of three goalkeepers Albania will have in the roster, along with Empoli’s Etrit Berisha and Brentford’s Thomas Strakosha.
Kastrati has been a frequent call-up for Albania in the past two seasons, earning two caps in friendlies against Estonia and Saudi Arabia. The goalkeeper was apart of the country’s UEFA Nations League squad in 2022 and for the entire EURO 2024 Qualification cycle. However, Kastrati did not play in any of those games.
Kastrati will become the second Cittadella player to be in a national team for a major international tournament. Damien Chrysostome, a center back who played for Cittadella from 2002 to 2006, participated in the 2004 African Cup of Nations for Benin.
Albania start their tournament next Saturday at Signal Iduna Park where they’ll face reigning champions Italy. Sylvinho’s side will then play Croatia in Hamburg on June 19, before wrapping up the group stage against Spain at the Merkur Spiel-Arena five days later.
