Cittadella vs Pisa: Nerazzurri awarded 3-0 win following re-appeal

Pisa has been awarded a 3-0 forfeited win against Cittadella following Wednesday’s ruling by the Court of Appeals.

The Nerazzurri appealed the initial ruling by the sporting judge that indicated there was not enough to overturn the original 1-1 result in August.

After a video conference on Wednesday, the Court ruled that Cittadella would be sanctioned with a 0-3 forfeited loss and accepted Pisa’s appeal, according to the Court’s press release.

Pisa argued that the Granata had fielded an ineligible player during August’s 1-1 draw. The player in question, Jacopo Desogus, did not appear on the match sheet prior to the game. The mistake was corrected by the team 14 minutes after kickoff and Desogus entered the match in the second half, playing 21 minutes.

The sporting judge’s ruling on Sept. 5 imposed a €10,000 fine for the club and a €2,000 fine to team manager Federico Cerantola, but did not sanction the club with a forfeited loss.

The club plans to appeal the decision to the CONI court, according to Cittadella lawyer Laura Dal Zuffo.

“We are surprised by this sentence,” Dal Zuffo said to La Gazzetta dello Sport. “The first degree judgment held, also due to the precedents and behavior of Cittadella, and in any case the rule is not clear and there is no mention anywhere of 0-3 for an event of this kind. We need to understand the Court’s reasoning and we will read it in the reasons, then we will appeal to the CONI Guarantee Board.”

Cittadella falls to 15th place on seven points while Pisa extend its lead at the summit of Serie B by four points.
