Cittadella vs Cremonese: Granata desperate for a home win

Cittadella is in desperate need of points going into Matchday 17 of Serie B. The Granata host Cremonese on Sunday afternoon at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato where they look to snap a 15 home match winless streak.
Alessandro Dal Canto’s side were thrashed 5-0 last weekend in La Spezia: another record defeat this season for the club. Cittadella remains in last place of the Serie B standings with its lowest point tally after 16 games in professional club history.
“We need to start winning,” Dal Canto said on Saturday in his prematch press conference. “Only results will allow us to get out of this moment in which as soon as we concede a goal, we go into trouble. Only a streak of positive results can help us.”
The Granata have recorded one home win in the calendar year of 2024, dating back to a Jan. 13 victory against Palermo. The club welcomes Cremonese on Sunday, a team which sits fifth in the league and is undefeated against Cittadella at the Tombolato in its last eight encounters.
“Cremonese is strong and technical. Compared to Spezia, they focus on the technical aspect,” Dal Canto said. “I expect a less physical match than last weekend.”
The Grigiorossi, led by Giovanni Stroppa, enters the Tombolato with two wins from their last six games. A win for Stroppa’s side will put Cremonese back into the top four of the league standings.
Three home games and one road trip remain for Cittadella in 2024, a year which has seen the club go 5-11-19 since January. Dal Canto’s side will look to end their horror year on a positive note by attempting to climb out of the relegation zone before New Year’s Day.
“We are in last and we are having difficulties with a ton of injuries,” Dal Canto said. “Now it’s right to do what’s necessary to get out of this situation rather than what I like, trying to enhance and exalt the characteristics of the available players. We must worry about leveling ourselves with the other teams for the ‘salvezza’.”
