Cittadella’s home factor could decide relegation fate

As the club looks to avoid relegation for a ninth straight year, the Granata are holding a fragile lead in 14th place, one point above the relegation playout spot with eleven games remaining. Eleven points separate the promotion playoff and automatic relegation spots as teams await a grandstand ending to the league.
But for Cittadella, there could be a cause for concern. With six home games remaining, the Granata have collected just 11 points from a possible 39 at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato: the worst home record in Serie B.
The negative results come following the club going 343 days without a home win in 2024. Alessandro Dal Canto’s men endured a club-record 16 games winless at the Tombolato. Despite victories against Reggiana and Palermo in the final days of December, three straight home defeats followed for Cittadella.
Dal Canto’s side, however, may need to grind out home results in order to survive.
Relegation six-pointers against Sudtirol, Carrarese, Salernitana and Brescia are home games lined up for the Granata, while road trips to Sampdoria, Reggiana and Frosinone remain on the cards. These games could be decisive in Cittadella’s route to safety, as failure to win the direct clashes could sink Dal Canto’s side further down the league.
In previous seasons, the standard number of points a team needs to survive the drop is 45 points. If this season follows that trend, Cittadella would need 15 points from a possible 33 to guarantee safety.
