Cittadella, Dal Canto expect lineup changes in Frosinone battle

On May 3, 2025 by Jake Iovine

The equation is simple for Cittadella: three games in nine days to determine the outcome of its 2024/25 campaign.

The first of the final three begins for the Granata on Sunday as they travel to the Stadio Benito Stirpe to face Frosinone.

Alessandro Dal Canto’s men find themselves in 19th place, one point below the relegation play-out zone and three points from automatic safety. After a third straight loss on Thursday–a 1-0 home defeat to Brescia–Dal Canto is expected to make adjustments to his lineup for Sunday’s clash.

“There will be four or five changes,” he said in his prematch press conference. “I have many players who have started often, so I’ve never had big worries. This team is more than sufficient to achieve the objective that we have.”

The Granata will be hoping to regain their away form for their final road trip. Despite holding the worst home record in the league, Cittadella has picked up 23 points on its travels this season: the sixth best record in Serie B.

But after beating Juve Stabia on March 1, Dal Canto’s men have tallied just two points from a possible 21 in the league, losing five of their last seven matches. This includes two consecutive losses on the road against Sampdoria and Reggiana, both of whom are fighting to avoid relegation.

“The team was always alive during the week, we never showed signs of discouragement,” Dal Canto said. “Three games are enough to save ourselves. The [current] negative trend isn’t great but football is unpredictable.

“Our only goal is to not give in to a story that’s already written.”

Paolo Bianco won five of his first six games after being appointed Frosinone head coach in February. But since beating Sampdoria in late March, the Canarini have gone four games without a win in the league. The drop in form sees Bianco’s men sit 14th and one point above the relegation play-out spots.

“When a team is fighting for survive–like us–we must have a determination that goes beyond the typology of an opponent we are facing,” Dal Canto said about Frosinone.

The Canarini know a win would practically guarantee a place in next year’s edition of Serie B. For Cittadella, another loss could put the Granata one step in Serie C as their 10 year stay in the second division is at stake.

“All the games live on episodes, on a fine balance,” Dal Canto said. “We are letting ourselves be moved from the negative episodes. Now we have to bring positivity to the balance.”
