Cittadella could be relegated on Friday. Here’s how it can happen

Cittadella can be relegated to Serie C as early as Friday, depending on results elsewhere.

The Granata are on the verge of dropping to the third tier for the first time since 2015 as they sit in 19th place on 36 points. The club is three points from the play-out zone and four points from safety.

Alessandro Dal Canto’s men managed a draw in Frosinone on Sunday, extending their winless streak to eight games. The poor run of form has seen Citta drop eight places in two months since their last victory on March 1 against Juve Stabia.

With two games remaining, Cittadella will play twice at home against Bari and Salernitana within four days of each other. A loss on Friday against the Puglians paired with Brescia avoiding defeat in Modena would officially send the Granata into the third division.

Dal Canto’s side could also be mathematically relegated with a draw and a combination of two other results. If there is a winner in the game between Sampdoria and Salernitana, and Brescia takes all three points, Cittadella would be relegated with a draw on Friday.

Six points in the last two games for the Granata, however, will likely send them into a two-legged relegation play-out to be contested on May 19 and May 24.
