Mario Gargiulo
On August 8, 2021 by Jake IovineMario Gargiulo had an exceptional season last year, scoring goals and preforming well for Cittadella. A midfielder who likes to go forward, scored 8 times last season.
Gargiulo was born in Naples and grew up playing for Brescia Calcio. An young midfielder, Gargiulo played 31 games in three seasons for Brescia’s U19’s.
At 18 years old, Gargiulo made his pro debut on August 30, 2014 against Frosinone. That season, Mario made 6 more appearances for Brescia in Serie B. Despite being relegated, due to Parma’s bankruptcy in Serie A that year, Brescia were re admitted in Serie B for the next season.
While being owned by Chievo Verona, his one year loan ended at Brescia, and was now loaned to Bassano in Serie C. It was at Bassano where Mario scored his first pro goal. On November 4, 2015 in the Coppa Italia Serie C, Gargiulo scored to make it 3-2 to Bassano, were they eventually won that game in extra time. It was a great season for the club, as they were pushing for promotion alongside Cittadella. Gargiulo did not play much, as he sat on the bench for majority of the season.
Lucchese was Mario’s next destination. At Lucchese, Gargiulo appeared in 22 matches in all comps, and led the club to a mid table finish. It was enough for a playoff spot, and they made it all the way to the quarterfinal. Eventually losing to Parma, it was the first truly great season for the midfielder.

In the summer of 2017, Pontedera bought Gargiulo from Chievo on a free transfer. At Pontedera, he played with current teammate Domenico Frare while playing 42 matches that season. A semi final run to the Coppa Italia Lega Pro was cut short to Alessandria, and a first round playoff exit to Viterbese
Sold to Imolese for free the next summer, Gargiulo was once again a starter for the Serie C club. But once again, they fell short on their quest to promotion. Playing 45 games that season, it was clear that Gargiulo was ready for the next step, but fell short on their chance at promotion.

That all changed in the summer of 2019. Gargiulo signed for Cittadella. After a slow start with his new team, Gargiulo started to show the potential he has. His second season at Citta was a special one, and probably his best so far as a pro. Gargiulo was the second leading goalscorer, with 8 goals for Cittadella in 20/21, behind Federico Proia. He is a super midfielder with potential to make the move to Serie A!
