Sunday night football in Cittadella. Can the Granata secure another home win?
On October 16, 2021 by Jake IovineThe international break is finally over, which means Serie B is back this weekend! AS Cittadella are coming off an important road victory over Frosinone two Saturday’s ago. Back at home on Sunday night, without coach Edoardo Gorini, Citta has SPAL in front of them, and they pose no easy points.
With the return of Rabaltai in the east curve, Cittadella are poised for three points that would keep them in playoff position. With seven games played so far, Citta have done well under Edoardo Gorini.
“We have worked well in these two weeks from a physical point of view, then we must also be there with our heads.” explained Gorini to trivenetogoal.
Due to a red card late against Frosinone, Gorini will not be on the sidelines at the Tombolato come Sunday night. Instead, assistant coach Roberto Musso will take over.
Cittadella’s chances of getting three points are increased as forward Orji Okwonkwo has hit fine form. The Nigerian striker on loan from Bologna has impressed so far having scored 6 goals in the first 8 matches, including the Coppa Italia match. Orji looks to continue his form and hopes the international break has not slowed down his scoring run.
SPAL has had the better of Cittadella since their first meeting back in 1998. Most famously, Cittadella beat the Serie A team back in 2017 in the Coppa Italia in a memorable night in Ferrara. Despite having past success against the Granata, SPAL are eager to get what would be their third win of the season. It’s been a slow start for Pep Clotet’s men, sitting in 14th on the table with 8 points. It would be a massive victory if they could pull all three points from this match, which is why no game in Serie B is easy.
One game at a time should be the mindset for Citta, but it’s hard to not look at the upcoming fixtures before the November international break. Next weekend is an away trip to Monza, then a midweek clash against Buffon’s Parma. After a trip down south to Reggina, it’s then home to current leaders Pisa.
The games are pilling and important points are up for grabs in the coming week. Coming off the international break, Cittadella have another opportunity to claim what would be a solid three points at home.
My prediction? SPAL will we a tough test, and I could see them winning this. A 1-1 draw will be split between the two teams, and Orji Okwonkwo will score his 7th goal of the season.
