First training day at the Tombolato

Cittadella’s 2022/23 season is well and truly underway now as the team had their first training session of the new season.
The team is preparing for what is scheduled to be a highly competitive season with many great teams and players in the league. The Granata will train for a week and a half at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato before traveling north for a preseason retreat in Lavarone.
The first competitive match for Edoardo Gorini’s side is on August 5th, where they meet Serie A side Lecce in the Coppa Italia Round of 64. The following weekend will be the first matchday of the Serie B campaign.
In addition to today’s training, the media were allowed to speak with some of the players and staff. Here are some highlights of the day, with quotes coming via Rigorosamente Cittadella.
How do you feel about the first training day?
Gorini: “I feel great enthusiasm and a great desire to restart and to do well. It’s a great desire to restart after almost two months and I think it’s a positive thing.”
What season will it be given a very competitive league?
Gorini: “Serie B is always hard and competitive. Serie B is difficult by definition: by the names and teams as well as the league from a tactical and physical aspect. It’s a very hard, complete, and beautiful league with the fact that we are a great contributor and contribute to giving importance to this league. The fact that there’s a lot of outside noise is a positive aspect and an aspect that increases viewership which I believe is only positive.”
Sporting director Stefano Marchetti on building the team for this year:
Marchetti: “The guys are coming new so we are good, the feeling is great given the whole group last year was a little of what I wanted. With the market: it hasn’t started yet so I’m always going towards my goal that doesn’t depends only on me. Two attackers have arrived that can show qualities that they have because they certainly have it in them, being able to bring 100% of their potential. This is the goal.”
“I saw what they told me, that [Cittadella] never says anything now. I hope that someone arrives, even in a month or somewhat.”
