Cittadella get ready for a hard match against Benevento

On September 20, 2021 by Jake Iovine

Cittadella play their first midweek match of the season Tuesday night as they take on Benevento at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito. The Granata are also looking for their first road points, but Benevento will be no easy task.

The Campania club are one of the stronger sides in Serie B this year. Having just missed out on survival last year in the first division, Benevento have a strong squad with the likes of Gianluca Lapadula, Kamil Glik, and Alberto Paleari, former Cittadella and Genoa goalkeeper.

The Stregoni are also coming off a solid road victory over Ascoli. During the international break, they beat Serie A giants Napoli 5-1 in their own stadium.

It’s a quick turnaround for Cittadella, as they are back on the pitch after Saturday’s win over Pordenone. An important three points for the team, and head coach Edoardo Gorini is already focused on the next.

“When you win and there is a midweek shift, you hardly have time to revisit what it was,” Gorini spoke to trivenetogoal. “We work with determination because we immediately return to the field and that is what we are doing.”

Cittadella forward Orji Okwonkwo looks to continue is strong start to the season and help Cittadella to their fourth league win of the campaign. Enrico Baldini also looks to have a good showing in Campania tomorrow night as well.

Above all, Gorini demands that everyone must be on their “A” game tomorrow, if we want to get a result.

“For Benevento I fear the speed and technique of the attackers, they have many players of higher category who know Serie B and who can make a difference. We are facing a very strong and well-equipped team, it will take the best Cittadella to bring points home.”

An important match for both sides as a win for either team can put them higher in the standings and up the playoff table. After Brescia failed to go top after a draw with Frosinone earlier, Cittadella could go into the top two depending on other results from around the league.

It’ll be a hard fought game as it always is in Serie B, but I believe Benevento will come out on top. With the home crowd with them, and a Cittadella side where they had to travel by plane the day before, I believe Benevento will be the winners in a 2-0 win.
