It seems like forever ago since the last time Cittadella took the field in Serie B. Yet here we are two weeks later, preparing for a trip to central Italy.
A 2-0 home win against Pisa was the last time we saw Cittadella in action. Three red cards for Pisa saw Cittadella cruise to victory,
But this time, things will be much different. Away to Ternana hasn’t always been the most straightforward. The Granata have only claimed one victory in Terni, coming in 2007. In all 18 matches between the two clubs, a six way tie is split between wins, draws, and losses.
Nineteen points is where Cittadella’s campaign currently sits. After two back-to-back wins, Cittadella have put themselves within striking distance of the top 8. Only 5 points separates 9th place and 1st.
Midfielder Simone Branca knows this type of game is hard to approach, given the circumstances of the match and factors involved.
“Despite being newly promoted, Ternana is strong, also because it has enriched the group that had already done well in Serie C with leading players like Donnarumma.” Branca told reporters of Il Mattino di Padova.
“In some ways this match is even more delicate than the previous ones, because the difficulty of the encounter is added to the unknown factor of the international break, which may have taken away concentration.”
Being promoted back into the second tier, Ternana are a well equipped team determined to make some noise. Before the season even began, they opened eyes in a 5-4 victory over Bologna. Sitting three points behind Cittadella, Ternana have done well to avoid early season problems.
