Serie B postpones remaining games in 2021 due to Covid concerns

Lega Serie B has announced that the remaining two matches in the calendar year of 2021 will be postponed and rescheduled for January of next year.

A meeting was held earlier today to discuss the situation. Due to an increase of positive Covid-19 cases within teams, the league voted on pushing the remaining games to January. Monza, SPAL, Lecce, Pisa, and Brescia all have positive cases within their squad.

Cittadella were scheduled to host Cosenza on Boxing Day, then would follow a short trip to Vicenza on the 29th. The league’s decision to postpone the match effectively ends 2021 for the Granata.

With the games canceled, Cittadella enter a short break starting tomorrow. They restart training on January 3rd with preparation for the next scheduled match on the weekend of January 15th. It’s not clear whether the postponed matches will take place right away in January, or midweek in February.

Stadiums will also be a talking point in the coming days. With Covid on the rise in Europe, a spectator ban could happen if cases continue to climb. Currently, Italy is allowing 75% capacity in stadiums, but that could change depending on the situation.
