Brescia looks to reignite title race as Cittadella visits the Rigamonti
On October 23, 2026 by Jake IovineThree weeks ago, Cittadella suffered its first loss of the season and risked falling within three points of second-placed Union Brescia.
But after a dip in form from La Leonessa, the tide has changed – and their title hopes are in limbo.
Cittadella can hand a heavy blow to Brescia’s direct promotion ambitions with a victory on Saturday afternoon as two title challengers meet at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti.
It’s undoubtedly the biggest game of the season so far for both sides. A win for Roberto Musso’s men would put them 11 points clear just under a third of the way into the season. A victory for Eugenio Corini’s side, however, will close the gap to five points and put the team back in the promotion race.
But Musso knows three points are not a given. Brescia has not suffered a home loss since Jan. 24, going 8-4-0 in its last 12 regular season home games.
“They want to play an important match and show they are the strongest team in the league,” Musso said in his pregame press conference.
The Granata are yet to drop points on the road this season and have not lost on their travels since falling 2-1 to Brescia in early April.
Musso’s side scrapped by Arzignano on Monday night, putting the team eight points clear of Brescia entering this weekend. Corini’s side lost for the first time this season on Monday, falling 2-1 against Giana Erminio.
Valerio Crespi, Brescia’s top scorer from last season and with three goals this year, missed the game in Gorgonzola due to an injury. The striker will be sidelined for this weekend’s game.
Saturday will be the first of two meetings between the two clubs in a space of five days. The teams will meet again on Oct. 28 in a Coppa Italia Serie C Round of 16 clash.
“The only thing I ask from the guys is we must leave the field calmly, having left everything,” Musso said. “The result will be a consequence of what is produced on the field.”
