Cittadella are back home this weekend as a high-flying Frosinone team comes into town on Saturday.
Despite a positive start to the season, the Granata have not won a match since August 13th, and will be looking for victory against Frosinone, a historically difficult team to play against. Cittadella have only beaten Frosinone four times in their history, with all those wins coming in the last three seasons.
Last Saturday saw Cittadella earn an ugly point in Ascoli, while Frosinone got their third win of the season against Como. Fabio Grosso’s side have gotten off to a dream start early on, and sit in 2nd place with 9 points.
Edoardo Gorini’s Cittadella will have to play the match without striker Raul Asencio, who got sent off last weekend in Ascoli. Center back Dario Del Fabro will also be suspended for the match as a late second yellow sees him miss the match on Saturday.
Luckily for Gorini, summer signing Carlos Embalo has the chance to make his debut after recovering from a thigh injury. In addition, Alessandro Mattioli will also be available after missing the start of the season also with an injury. In midfield, Andrea Danzi will sit out as well as Valerio Mastrantonio.
Despite losing some key aspects last summer, Frosinone have proved themselves early on this season. With seven goals scored this season, all seven of those have came from open play. Frosinone have also put the most shot on target per match out of any team in the league, average 6.3 shots on frame each game.
Historically hard to play against, Frosinone haven’t beaten the Granata since that famous playoff match in August 2020, where Camillo Ciano smashes a 120th minute volley to send I Canarini into the semi finals. Frosinone will be looking to keep their great start to the season going, while Cittadella are seeking for their first win in almost month.
