Serie B resumes this weekend as Cittadella host Ternana on Matchday 7 on what has been a thrilling start to the league season.
Cittadella will be looking to start a long stretch of matches up until the World Cup with a victory at home. The recent international break has came at the perfect time for the Granata after a grueling start to the season, having played seven matches in seven weeks. A 3-0 thrashing to league leaders Reggina has given Edoardo Gorini’s side to recharge and refocus on Saturday’s matchup.
Despite a rocky start to the season–losing three of their opening four competitive matches–Ternana have gotten back on track with a good run of form before the break. Ternana have already beaten high flying Reggina and completed a comeback win against Parma this season.
Genoa loanee Andrea Favilli leads Le Fere in the goal scoring race, bagging three goals in five matches. Alongside him is Serie B veteran striker Alfredo Donnarumma, who scored 14 goals for Ternana last season. He’ll be making his return to the Tombolato on Saturday having played for Cittadella during the 2013/14 season.
Cittadella knows that Ternana haven’t been an easy team to play against in the past. Their last victory against Le Fere came in 2016, but have now gone five consecutive matches without a win. Also during that time, Ternana thrashed Cittadella 5-1 in Umbria during the 2017/18 season. Back in April, Ternana snatched a last minute win thanks to a late goal by Alfredo Donnarumma, minutes after Cittadella scored an equalizing goal.
It’s a tight Serie B table while having only played six matches. Ternana have gained 10 points in their opening six games. Cittadella are right behind them with 8 points to their name so far. The Granata sit two points behind the playoff zone, and will be hoping that a win will jump them back into position.
