Two teams desperate for a win meet in Sicily on Sunday afternoon at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.
After having exited the Coppa Italia following a 4-0 defeat against Torino, Cittadella look to secure their first road win since April. The Granata have gone four games in Serie B winless, scoring one goal in those four matches.
It hasn’t been an easy start to life in Serie B for Palermo. The Rosaneri have also gone four matches without a win, sinking all the way to 18th in the table.
Both teams are in great need of a victory on Sunday afternoon under the Sicilian sun. Cittadella is going to have to pull it off without a number of keys players. Simone Branca and Andrea Danzi will sit out due to the red cards last weekend against SPAL. Raul Asencio and Gian Filippo Felicioli have picked up injuries over the week, and will also not make the trip to Palermo. Enrico Baldini has started his recovery process after tearing his ACL a few weeks ago.
Palermo striker Matteo Brunori has been one of Eugenio Corini’s most valuable players, tallying 3 goals and 3 assists in his first 9 matches. Brunori played a massive part in Palermo’s promotion to Serie B, and his goal tally will have a big say in Palermo’s fight to stay up. Francesco Di Mariano, Salvatore Elia, and Leo Stulac are also ones to pay attention to for the Sicilian team.
This will be the first time these two sides meet in over three years. Before Palermo were demoted to Serie D, they played Cittadella in a 2-2 draw at the Renzo Barbera, with the Granata coming from 2-0 down and clinching a playoff spot. It was the last game for the Rosaneri in Serie B, until this season when they were promoted back to the second division.
It’s a massive match for both sides that are eagerly searing for three points. Cittadella hold a two point cushion over their opponents, and can jump as high as 10th by the end of the day. Palermo are seeking to get out of the relegation zone while trying to restart their season.
