Begal’s goal is enough for Cittadella Women to grind out win in Genova.

Alice Begal scored her third goal of the season in a tight contest in Liguria. For the second straight weekend, Cittadella earn a 1-0 victory and keep pressure on league leaders Lazio.
The hosts looked to counter the Granata throughout the first half, and created half-chances on Ilaria Toniolo’s goal.
With five minutes before halftime, Cittadella somehow didn’t take the lead when Laura Peruzzo’s cross made its way across the goal, hitting the post in the end. On the follow up, Veronica Benedetti’s shot was cleared off the line, and Cittadella entered halftime scoreless.
In the second half, Cittadella showed their strength and finally got their goal in the 67th minute, when Alice Begal got her toe on a bobbled save from Genoa keeper Matilde Macera.
Salvatore Colantuono’s side looked to seal the win minutes later, when Jonna Dahlberg’s shot was saved by Macera once again, and Caterina Ferin couldn’t get a good shot from the rebound.
The game was still there for Genoa. And they nearly made the Granata regret their missed chances in stoppage time. Once again, Toniolo’s last minute heroics finished the job for Cittadella. From Ella Ygfeldt’s free kick, Toniolo parried away the goal-bound shot, making the save of the game late in the match.
The win now means it’s eight successive victories for Cittadella as they continue their Serie A dream. The result also sets up a top of the table clash in two weeks, where the Granata will take on Lazio, who are occupying 1st place three points clear.
