Cittadella are finally back on the pitch in league play as they face Reggiana in their season opener on Sunday night.
Edoardo Gorini’s side will be looking to improve on a disappointing season in 2022/23, finishing just above the relegation zone on the final day. The Granata have started their campaign brilliantly with a 1-2 win in the Coppa Italia against Serie A side Empoli.
Reggiana is back in Serie B after being relegated in 2021. Led by newly hired Alessandro Nesta, Reggiana won their Serie C group last season, winning promotion to the second division. Similarly to Cittadella, Nesta’s side managed to defeat Monza in the Coppa Italia last weekend, scoring twice in the second half to advance.
Reggiana won the last meeting between the two sides in February 2021, beating the Venetian team 0-3 at home. Cittadella will be hoping that history doesn’t repeat itself as the Granata begin their 50th season as a club.
It could be a huge night for many new signings in Cittadella as they could make their Serie B debut. New players like Claudio Cassano, Edoardo Sottini, and Alessio Rizza could make their first appearance in the second division on Sunday.
