Cittadella winter mercato: A preview.

The Granata sit 4th in Serie B after an impressive 19 games in the league, gaining 14 more points than where they were last year at this time. Edoardo Gorini’s side has brought enthusiasm back into the club, dreaming of playoffs that hasn’t been reached in the last two seasons.
This January will be an important month for Cittadella and sporting director Stefano Marchetti. The club has proved itself once again in the summer, signing the likes of Claudio Cassano, Lorenzo Carissoni and Luca Pandolfi who have proven successful in the first half of the season. Other signings like Stefano Negro, Emil Kornvig and Filippo Pittarello have proved to be quality picks for Gorini as Cittadella dreams of promotion.
Now the game starts to get tricky for Marchetti: what do you do in this window? Rumors have indicated that left back Lorenzo Carissoni is drawing interest from Modena, while forward Andrea Magrassi is liked upon Sudtirol. Marchetti confirmed that Sudtirol might have interest, but has yet to receive an official offer.
The situation is vastly different from last season, where Cittadella needed reinforcements after a nightmare first 19 games. Now, however, it seems like the opposite has happened for the Granata, as they can’t move too many pieces in a well-established squad.
Early reports have suggested that the club likes Virtus Verona striker Matteo Casarotto. The 25-year-old has scored seven goals in 19 appearances in Serie C, which would seem like a good pickup for Cittadella.
It will be a very interesting month for the Granata, who tries to continue their unbeaten run going into the new year. The team is back in league action next weekend against Palermo, followed by a trip to face Ternana. The last match of the month will be at home against Sampdoria on the 28th.
