Serie B is back this weekend for the first time in 2024 as Cittadella host Palermo is a huge clash at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato.
It’s a battle of two teams preforming well in the league. The Granata sit in 4th place entering the weekend following an impressive opening 19 games. Palermo struggled early on, but is now starting to find form as Eugenio Corini’s side sits in 6th place entering the match against Cittadella.
Cittadella is currently enjoying its best unbeaten streak under Edoardo Gorini. The club has not lost in the league since late October, spanning eight games without defeat. Cittadella is one of the best teams at home in the league this season, tallying 20 points in 10 home matches.
Despite some struggles in the fall, Palermo has regained its form heading into the new year. The Rosanero has scored three goals in the each of the last four games while getting important wins against Pisa and Cremonese. Interestingly, Corini has never beaten Gorini as a coach, with the Palermo boss winless in the last four meetings.
Cittadella will be hoping to continue its fine run of form as the club starts to dream about promotion once again. The Granata have not lost to Palermo in the last four meetings, with the latest defeat coming at the end of 2018. In November, Gorini’s side snatched a victory in Sicily courtesy of a 97th minute header by Luca Pandolfi.
Both teams want to start 2024 with a big win. A large crowd is expected on Saturday afternoon as nearly 6,000 tickets have been sold. Palermo’s away sector has been completely sold out, making way for a brilliant atmosphere at the Tombolato on Saturday.
