Cittadella meets Venezia in a midweek clash at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo looking to end a six match losing streak in the league.
Edoardo Gorini’s side have not picked up a single point since Jan. 13, going on a six game losing run. On his 50th birthday in the city he was born, Gorini hopes to bring home a long-awaited victory.
“It would be the best gift to take home three points,” Gorini said in his pre-match press conference. “It would be the most important gift in this moment.”
Despite the recent poor form, the Granata remain in 7th place entering the match against their region rivals. Venezia has the chance to jump back into 2nd place with a win on Wednesday.
The match will be the 20th all-time meeting between Cittadella and Venezia. Both sides have played out draws in the last four meetings, with the most recent ending in a 0-0 tie in September. Cittadella has not beaten the Arancioneroverde in the last seven meetings, with their last win coming in July 2020 courtesy of a late goal from Federico Proia.
Venezia striker Joel Pohjanpalo is the leading goalscorer in Serie B so far, leading the way with 14 goals as well as three assists. The Finnish striker has scored 34 goals for the club since signing in the summer of 2022 and will look to continue his goalscoring against the Granata.
Gorini confirmed center back Nicola Pavan is still unavailable due to injury, while midfielder Alessio Vita will be assessed in the morning to determine his match availability. Captain Simone Branca will also miss the match due to his two-match suspension by the league.
For Venezia, midfielder Francesco Zampano will be sidelined due to yellow card accumulation, as well as center back Marin Sverko.
