Pittarello believes Cittadella will eventually reach Serie A

Cittadella forward Filippo Pittarello believes Cittadella will eventually reach Serie A in the future for the first time in club history.

The striker spoke following the Granata‘s 1-1 draw with Bari on Sunday. Despite Pittarello opening the scoring in the sixth minute, the draw eliminates the team from playoff contention with one game to spare. However, Pittarello had high praise for Cittadella after reflecting on the team’s potential for the future.

“I believe that Cittadella–I don’t know if it’s next year or in 10 years–will reach Serie A,” Pittarello said. “Until you live here and see it for yourself, you don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“There’s a real magic that is created here that, in my opinion, has the tools to be able to go to Serie A. With the work of the director and the profiles that they want to aspire, it’s not always about getting the strongest striker in the league.”

Pittarello has scored six goals and registered three assists for Cittadella in his first season in Serie B. The striker was signed in the summer from Feralpisalo after getting the club promoted to the second division for the first time.

Despite being in the playoff race for majority of the season, Cittadella will not make the postseason for the third straight campaign. However, they will be staying in Serie B for a ninth straight year: a remarkable achievement for the club who consistently has the smallest payroll in the league.

“I’m convinced because it’s rare to find a group like this, it’s what you takeaway from a season,” Pittarello said. “I’ve met many teammates and also many people who have given me everything. I hope that I’ve given all to them as well.”
