The fourth 0-0 draw of the season

For the fourth time in the 2022/23 season, Cittadella finish with a 0-0 draw. Today, it was Modena who they shared the points with on Saturday afternoon.

Cittadella dominated the early part of the game, finding chances from Giacomo Beretta and Ignacio Lores Varela. It was the Uruguayan who came the closest to scoring in the first half after hitting the post from inside the box. The Granata outshot Modena 11-4 in the first 45 minutes, but the score remained 0-0.

As the game went on, Cittadella looked for the go-ahead goal that had been building. Finally, in the 81st minute, Alessio Vita won a penalty and a chance to find the breakthrough with time running out. Substitute Andrea Magrassi, who scored his first goal in Serie B last weekend, stepped up to take the spot kick.

However, this weekend wasn’t meant to be for Magrassi. The substitute failed to score from 12 yards out with his penalty being saved by Riccardo Gagno.

Despite owning 60% possession as well as tallying 24 shots, Cittadella were held goalless at the Stadio Piercesare Tombolato. Edoardo Gorini’s side will feel like this is two points dropped at home after controlling large parts of the game.

Cittadella are now six games unbeaten in Serie B, but have only picked up one victory in that stretch. The scoring struggle continues as it is yet another game without finding the net.

The draw puts the Granata in 12th place with 15 points as they travel to Parma next weekend.
