For the first time since 2006, Cittadella travel to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to face Genoa.

Having been relegated last season after multiple years in the top flight, Genoa find themselves hunting for promotion in Serie B. For the fans of Il Grifone, promotion is all or nothing for this season, and currently sit in 4th place and one win away from the automatic promotion spots.

However, the season hasn’t unfolded the way most Genoani had hoped for. Currently winless in their last four games, head coach Alexander Blessin has faced a lot of criticism as the halfway point in the season approaches. Despite being in the playoff positions, Genoa have only managed to win once out of a total six tries this season at home. That number will certainly have to improve if they want to make a charge up the table.

Cittadella fans will be sharing a lot of similar feeling with other Genoa fans this season. The Granata are having their worst start to their season since being promoted to Serie B in 2016, and have looked a shadow of their former self in the last few months.

Much like Genoa, a lot of blame has been put on the head coach. Edoardo Gorini’s seat on the bench may have turned up a notch after another game where Cittadella has failed to close out a game from a winning position. Now, the team has to watch their backs as only two points separate them in 13th, to 19th-place Como.

There’s nothing hiding from this game: it’s a massive game for both clubs for many different reasons. From coaches, to table implications, to getting back on track with form, this is a game where a win for either side can be a turning point in their seasons.
